Greenfield is an Indiana city with a population of about 20,000 residents. The city is located in and serves as the county seat of Hancock County. Hancock County was formed in 1828 and the same year Greenfield was chosen to be the county seat. Greenfield is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area and is situated in Center Township. The city lies about 25 miles west of Indianapolis and about 100 miles south of Fort Wayne.

The city hosts many community events such as the Greenfield Christmas Festival and Parade of Lights. Individuals from all parts of the city gather to look upon the beautiful floats and celebrate the holiday season during the parade. Greenfield is not only home to exciting events but is also home to many historical sites. The Riley Home Museum, listed on the National Register of Historical Places, is the birthplace of noted Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley. Although Riley was not actually born in the home, he was born in a cabin once located on the property. The coldest months of the year in Greenfield have daytime temperature highs that range from the mid to upper-30s on average. In addition to cool temperatures, snow is also very common during these months.
Thermostat readings during the warmer months of the year, which tend to be June, July, and August, remain in the mid and upper-80s on average. However, daytime temperatures during these months have reached into the triple digits.
